The Library is designed for the writer's budget and thus offers its residencies at a lower cost than other programs and without added fees or frills. Your resident host is also available to provide a letter for financial aid applications from your university or a scholarship or grant program.
Successful applicants will be sent confirmation of dates and an invoice with payment information.
Future residents will confirm participation with a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the program fee within two weeks of acceptance.
The second payment of 50% of the program fee is due two weeks before the residency start date as well as a €150 per week security deposit.
Residency is subject to cancellation if payments are not paid on time.
Getting Here
From the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris, there are trains roughly twice an hour from dawn til dusk. The ride is about 35 minutes to the Fontainebleau-Avon train station and is covered by the standard subscription Navigo transportation pass (incl. zone 5) or a one-time Ile de France ticket for 5 Euros (4 Euros if bought in a pack of 10).
Upon arrival at the Fontainebleau-Avon train station, le Trait d'Union is a 10-minute bus ride away, a 25-minute walk, or we can arrange to pick you up by car.
Amenities
As an autonomous studio, The Library has all essentials to make your stay as comfortable and productive as possible including private entrance, bathroom, and cooking facilities. There is also wifi and free access to a bicycle, or electric scooter rental. A washing machine with appointment access is available for a small, additional sum.
There is also a self-service, public laundry facility directly on the other side of the river in the village of Vulaines-sur-Seine 1 1/4 miles away (2 km), as well as a large grocery store (“Casino”), a pizzeria, bank, pharmacy and several other stores, all located in a shopping center.
To the north is the village of Samois-sur-Seine, which also has commerce on a smaller scale, including an "epicerie" (a small grocery store), a bakery, a post office, an antique shop, and a number of great restaurants.
Next to the village of Vulaines-sur-Seine is the village of Samoreau, which also has a bakery and a small lake that is a very nice walk (roundtrip from Le Trait d'Union is about 5 miles). In the spring and summer months, Samoreau has an open air, waterfront cafe that features free, live music most nights of the week.
